UX testing and design, UI design, front-end development
The redesign of the account side of the Alumni website included user-managed profiles, a directory search connected to a 90,000+ alumni database, and an email subscription management process. Additional features were added such as a new events system and a volunteer management system. We simplified the information architecture as well as designed wireframes and rapid prototypes using HTML/CSS/Javascript. Staff and alumni surveys and tests were conducted along the way to validate the design. I also worked closely with developers to deliver accessible front-end code.
Information Architecture
This project focused on redesigning and adding new features to the logged-in account portion of the website. For the user profile section of the site, modal screens were leveraged for users to be able to focus on single tasks and make important changes to their bio record information. This also greatly simplified the overall information architecture of the site.
New features included event promotion pages and email subscription management. Additionally, a volunteer management system was added in the new features and included an email communication and event creation system for users who managed class clubs and affiliate groups.
Wire Frames
Due to the three month deadline of this project, low-fidelity wire frames were created to test usability. I then begin immediately developing the user interface design in code.
User Profiles
Users can update their bio record, contact information, professional and academic information for networking, activities, interests, and affiliations for a customized event experiences. Users are able to allow data to be visible on the Alumni Directory or keep their data private. Modules were utilized to improve user flow and reduce the amount of steps needed to complete actions.
Alumni Directory
Alumni are able to search the Alumni Directory to connect with other Brown University alumni based on name, graduating class, city, and state.
Subscription Management
Alumni are able to see what communications they are subscribed to, edit communications they are subscribed to, as well as search for communications they are eligible to receive.
UI Design
The user interface design was conceptualized and created in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Final front-end code was delivered to developers and user acceptance testing was done before successfully releasing the new Alumni Portal to users.
